  2. What is the Career Expo? • The Career Expo is a chance for you to meet representatives from various organizations around Pittsburgh and learn about different types of careers. • Even if your dream job isn’t one of the Career Expo organizations, this is still a great opportunity to practice your professionalism skills and make a connection with business professionals from around the city!

  3. On the Clock: Schedule for the Day • 11:45-12:00 Depart from Camp Sites • 12:15-12:30 Arrive at Career Expo • 12:30-12:45 Welcome • 12:45-12:55 Transition to Session 1 • 12:55-1:15 Session 1 • 1:15-1:20 Transition to Session 2 • 1:20-1:40 Session 2 • 1:40-1:45 Transition to Session 3 • 1:45-2:05 Session 3 • 2:05-2:15 Transition to Closing • 2:15-2:25 Closing • 2:25-2:35 Depart from Career Expo As you can see, the schedule is tightly packed, and you often have only 5 minutes to get from one session to the next. Be prepared to move quickly and quietly through the hallways so that you aren’t late to a session!

  4. Your Responsibilities • Wear Business or Business Casual Attire • Remember the Crack the (Dress) Code PPT! Leave your casual clothing at home for the day. • Be Polite, Respectful, and Professional • All of the people at the Career Expo have been kind enough to take time off of their jobs to come and talk to you. Show them that you appreciate the fact that they want to share their career with you! • Many of the Mock Interview Do’s and Don’ts also apply to the Career Expo, so make sure that you’re prepared to do things like use your manners (say please, thank you, excuse me, etc.), smiling and being friendly, and, in general, demonstrating your best and most professional behavior for the whole afternoon. • Pay Attention and Participate in Every Session • You only have 20 minutes in each session, so be sure to make every minute count! Listen closely and take notes so that you can ask questions at the end of each session • Be sure to bring a pencil or pen and notebook with you so that you have space for your notes.

  5. Time to Talk • Below are some questions meant to get you thinking about the Career Expo. You and a partner will think-pair-share on your responses to each question. • Why might it be helpful to learn about different types of careers, even if you already have an idea of what you want to do for your own career? • Why is it important to treat all of the presenters with respect? What are 5 things that you can do to show that you appreciate their time and effort? • What are three types of clothing that would be appropriate to wear to the Career Expo? What are three articles of clothing that would not be appropriate to wear to the Career Expo? • What are 3-4 general questions that you might want to ask each presenter? • What benefits might come from making a good impression on the presenters? What are 5 things that you can do to make a good first impression?
