  1. Basic Press Safety

  2. Objective • Given a lecture with notes and a question sheet, identify basic press safety procedures. Score a 100% on the press safety procedures check off.

  3. Basic Press Safety • Check to make sure all guards are in place. • NEVER turn on a machine unless you are sure all tools have been removed from it and all mechanisms have been set correctly.

  4. Basic Press Safety • Make sure no one is near the machine before starting it. • Keep your hands clear of any point of operation while the machine is running.

  5. Basic Press Safety • Do NOT try to grab paper, perform adjustments, lubricate parts, or do anything that places your hands near to the rollers, nip points, drills, punches, or cutting blades while the machine is running.

  6. Basic Press Safety • Always work with an assistant when cleaning or operating machinery. • Keep long hair tied back to prevent it form being caught in machinery.

  7. Basic Press Safety • Do NOT wear any of the following items while working around operating machinery: long sleeves (except snug fitting), bulky sweaters, pants with cuffs, jewelry, medallions, necklaces, ties, watches, rings, bracelets, scarves, or other loose items.

  8. Basic Press Safety • The floor of the facility should always be kept clean of liquids and debris. • Hands should be washed before eating or drinking.

  9. Question Time • Objective: Given a question sheet, answer the questions about press safety. All the answers will come directly from the lecture. Score an 80% or higher on the completed question sheet.
