    2. The Christian Calendar begins with The Advent of Christ, Christmas. New Year, Epiphany. It is followed by Ash Wednesday & the Lent Season. The Lent season of 40 days culminates in Easter.

    3. THE PURPOSE OF EASTER In fact, Easter is just the Sunday that is celebrated to commemorate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Nevertheless, it has come to be associated with the seven or eight days of celebration, which is also known as the Eastertide: i. e. Palm Sunday through to- Maundy Thursday

    4. The Good Friday Holy Saturday Easter proper Emmaus. We continue to be in the Eastertide till Ascension Day.

    5. The Holy Week? The whole Eastertide, especially, the time from Palm Sunday through to Easter Sunday, the Resurrection is known as the Holy Week. It is also referred to as the Passion Week, or the week of Remission of Sins.

    6. Why Passion Week? It is referred to as "Passion Week" because in that time, Jesus Christ truly revealed His passion for us in what He willingly went through on our behalf. Passion Week is described in Matt. chapters 21-27; Mk. 11-15; Lk. 19-23; & Jn. 12-19.

    7. Passion Week Contains Several Memorable Events: The triumphal entry on Palm Sunday Jesus cleansing of the Temple for the second time His arguments with the Pharisees regarding His authority His Olivet Discourse on the end times, etc.

    8. The Last Supper with His disciples in the upper room The three-hour prayer session in the Garden of Gethsemane The betrayal of Judas Iscariot The arrest of Jesus and the several sham trials before the chief priests, Pontius Pilate, and Herod. His scourging at the hands of the Roman soldiers

    9. The carrying of His own Cross through the streets of Jerusalem His crucifixion at Golgotha and burial The glorious resurrection

    10. What is Palm Sunday? Palm Sunday is the day we remember the "triumphant entry" of Jesus into Jerusalem, exactly one week before His resurrection (Matthew 21:1-11). A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road.

    11. The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, "Hosanna to the Son of David!" "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" "Hosanna in the highest!" it is believed that this event took place on the Sunday before Jesus' crucifixion. In remembrance of this event, we celebrate Palm Sunday.

    12. It is referred to as "Palm Sunday" because of the palm branches that were laid on the road as Jesus rode the donkey into Jerusalem. Hosanna means save us now

    13. Maundy Thursday The name "Maundy Thursday" comes from the Latin, Dias Mandatum, which is the "day of the new commandment". The new commandment that Christians should love one another, just as Christ has loved us.

    14. It was on this night that Jesus had the Last Supper with His disciples. It was this night also that He washed the feet of His disciples. The celebration of the Eucharist and the washing of feet on Maundy Thursday day is common to Catholics, Anglicans, and Eastern Orthodox churches.

    15. What is Good Friday Good Friday is the Friday immediately preceding Easter Sunday. It is traditionally known as the day on which Jesus was crucified. Why is Good Friday referred to as good whilst somebody suffered? What the Jewish authorities and Romans did to Jesus was definitely not good (see Matt. chapters 26-27).

    16. Holy Saturday Holy Saturday is usually a quiet day of prayer and reflection in preparation for the celebration of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus, the Christ.

    17. Easter It is the annual day and season commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the tomb. It is a day that Christians all over the world thank God for the death and resurrection of the Lord.
