INTRODUCTION • Mission San Fernando was the seventeenth one built • Mission San Fernando was founded September 8,1797 • In 1923, San Fernando Mission became a church • San Fernando Mission was first discovered by the portal • Finally in 1835 father the Labava because he cannot tolerate the seualeration • In 1842 gold was discovered by Rancho the area was our ran with presenters Armor that was miseres had been protesting for years • For years drew the gold seekers to the church, • and they dug for gold for years • Francisco Reyes, mayor of the Los Angeles pueblo, claimed the best spot in the area.

  6. People The Mission Indian neophytes of San Fernando were referred to as Fernandina, after the mission. Though originally identified with the Tataviam and Tongva, in the 20th century mission Indian descendants of San Gabriel and San Fernando adopted the name Tongva.The Tangva were recognized as a distinct tribe by the state of California in 1994. They have sought Federal recognition for decades

  7. Livestock In its peak year, 1819 san Fernando had 12,800 head of cattle,which were a major source of food and revenue. The mission also had a large number of sheep ,an average of 5,000 in its peak years.

  8. San Fernando Mission Church The simple mission church is an exact replica of the 3rd church completed in 1806 and destroyed by an earthquake in 1971.

Another bell, weighing 100 pounds and dated to 1796, bears inscriptions for both San Fernando mission and Russian Orthodox Church official of the island of Kodiak, Alaska.
