Presentation Transcript
CLADISTICS • Amethod of classification of animals and plants according to the number of characteristics that they have in common. • It is assumed that the greater the number of characteristics that two organisms share, the more recently they diverged from a common ancestor.
CLADOGRAM • Abranching diagram showing the evolutionary relationship between a number of species.
Which organisms have hair? • Which organisms have jaws? • Which organisms have jaws, four walking legs, and amniotic eggs?
Which organisms have vertebrae? • Which organisms have four limbs? • Which organisms are most closely related?
Which of the following is NOT a characteristic of mice? • Backbone • Lungs • Fur • Opposable thumb
Which organisms are most closely related? • Fish and lizards • Salamanders and mice • Humans and chimpanzees • Humans and fish
