International Baccalaureate Mission Statement The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

  9. On what is my exam score based? • 1-7, 7 being highest • Internal Assessment • External Assessment • Ex: History HL • IA: Historical investigation in class (25%) • EA: P1, 2 & 3 (written exam in May) 75%

  10. Difference between IA & EA • Internal assessment: in class, scored by teacher • External assessment: exam components taken in May; 2 to 3 papers; mostly written • MCQ only in Biology, Chem & Physics • *Additional Group 4 Science requirement: Bio/Chem/Phy/SpEx/CompSci

  11. IB Transcript • July following senior year • Electronically sent to college attending • Colleges may use to offer credit or for placement; cannot be used to determine admission

What do I do? • Will receive instruction from Coordinator, Media staff & ToK instructor; maintain Managebac for EE • Select a subject and faculty mentor • View sample essays • Have 3 mandatory reflection sessions with mentor and complete EE/RPPF • Have check-in meetings with mentor throughout • *3-5 hours of meeting time from August 2019-December 2020 • Complete essay December 2020

  18. Creativity (CAS) • Creativity: original thinking, creative/personal expression • Ex: visual & performing arts, digital design, writing, film, crafts and composition • By definition, something that allows you to create

  20. Service • In or out of school • A part of an existing organization • Something entirely your idea based on a perceived need • Can focus on a local or global need • Ex: organizing a silent art auction to assist funding of art education in local community; volunteering at local hospital

Develop your answer with reference to two areas of knowledge. • “Humans are pattern-seeking animals and we are adept at finding patterns whether they exist or not” (adapted from Michael Shermer). Discuss knowledge questions raised by this idea in two areas of knowledge.
