Enhancing Water Quality Awareness: A Preliminary Dashboard Concept by UNEP

This preliminary concept dashboard developed by UNEP aims to enhance public awareness and communication on water quality and pollution. It serves as an interactive platform for stakeholders to access vital information on water quantity, quality, and pollution hotspots. The dashboard highlights causes of water pollution, including point source pollution, especially during the dry season, and showcases data on BOD concentrations in rivers. It aims to foster collaboration and informed decision-making to improve wastewater management and overall water health.

  9. Hot spotsofwaterpollution -Modelling • Point source pollution provides major contribution, in particular during “dry season” • High BOD5 in-stream concentrations in August • Most of the high polluted rivers flow into the sea, i.e. carrying many tons of BOD loads into the oceans • E.g. Egypt, 48% of households are connected to sewage systems, 44% of the treatment facilities have secondary treatment  but >50% of treatment plants do not work properly BOD5 instreamconc.
