  1. Welcome to ASC Scholars’ Academy! Project L.I.F.T. STEAM Camp September 7, 2013

  2. We are so glad that you said, “YES!” • Goal: To provide students at Bruns Academy, Walter G. Byers School, Druid Hills Academy, and Thomasboro Academy with a dynamic experience. We will provide arts-based residencies, a community-based project, and STEAM-based units of study. We will culminate this experience with a Literary Festival in the spring.

  3. Residencies • Provided by local arts-education providers • Visual Art, Performing Art, Writing, Digital and Media Literacy • Schedule provided to you for your residencies

  4. Community-Based Project • Will be a coordinated effort between the school community and other community agencies. • May take place in the fall or spring sessions.

  5. Literary Festival • Will be planned by the ASC Education Leadership Staff • Will include partnerships with arts-education providers • Will be an opportunity to celebrate and transform students’ written work

  6. Professional Development • Hosted at one or more school sites • Allows you to showcase your work!

  7. Camp Staff • Lead Certified Instructor • Certified Instructor • Co-Director • Camp Associate

  8. Lead Certified Instructor • Grouped into grade families (PreK-2, 3-5, 6-8) • Plan a unit of instruction for one grade • Coordinate the planning and activities for grade family at the site • Serve as the collaborative leader for the family • Communicate with ASC staff

  9. Certified Instructor • Plan a unit of study for one grade level • Serve as the leader to associates in the grade level • Create a supply order for the grade level to correspond with unit plans ($125/week) • Coordinate morning arrival and dismissal gathering and class groups for the grade

  10. Camp Associate • Deliver a unit of instruction that is planned by an instructor to a group of scholars • Organize the daily activities of the group of scholars • Keep record of attendance for assigned group of scholars

  11. Camp Co-Directors • Serve as a support to all instructors, associates, and scholars • Ensure that residency schedules are distributed • Monitor bus and car arrival • Coordinate “moving parts” of camp • Oversee student sign in and out • Respond to student management concerns

  12. Support from ASC • Coordinate the residencies • Plan the Literary Festival • Coordinate the community-based project • Provide opportunity for unit planning support • Order supplies (delivered in tubs) • Ensure that you get paid! • Feed you every chance we get!

Unit Plan Structure • Plan for approximately 3.5 hours of unit study per day • Typical schedule could have 1 hour of art residency per day, but some times there will be a double and other days will not have a residency (flexible planning) • One hour for lunch and recess • Up to one hour of structured movement activity planned during the day

  23. Shared Plan • Remember that your plan will be used by your “grade mates” • You will need to be explicit in your instructions to maximize impact on all students

  25. Supplies, supplies • The supply spreadsheet will be posted to the wiki. • The orders are due NO LATER than Monday, September 16. • Each class will receive a set of standard supplies.
