Cities also grew where natural resources provided needed materials for manufacturing. 3. The fall line prevented development upriver for many years as ships could not have easy access. 4. Good crop land made settlement easy in many areas.

20. Reasons People Settled in the SE Region • MANY African Americans settled in the SE region when they were involuntarily brought to be slaves on plantations.
