  4. MAIN STRENGTHS • Gains in motivation, behaviour and self-esteem of the pupils • Improved knowledge of vocational and career opportunities • Improved attendance, notably at FE, TO and WORK placements

  5. Strong leadership and effective support, involvement and planning • Interested, committed and energetic teaching staff • Good co-operation and working relationships between schools and their partners • Work placement arrangements – response and outcomes

  6. Generally suitable programmes offered by FE colleges and TOs • Mostly good contact with and support of parents • Vocational and work-related learning becoming integral part of school curriculum • Improvements progression to education, training or employment (majority)

  7. AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT/DEVELOPMENT • Wider range of vocational options, especially for girls • More effective school-based learning to meet pupils’ particular needs • Better links between school-based and ‘out-of-school’ learning (coherence)

  8. Vocational awards which reflect better the work-related elements of the curriculum and provide for progression • Relevant staff development • More effective monitoring and evaluation by all partners (minority)
