Objective • Using a number line, learners will be able to determine elapsed time by identifying starting, ending, and in-between times of activities. • Common Core Mathematics Standard • 3.MD.1 Tell and write time to the nearest minute and measure time intervals in minutes. Solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of time intervals in minutes, e.g., by representing the problem on a number line diagram.

  4. Content 1.1: Definition • What is elapsed time? Let’s define it! • The time that has passed between two events OR… • The difference between two times ALSO… • The time that can be measured between the beginning and the end of an activity

  5. Content 1.2: Base-60 • Reminder: Time is counted in base-60. There are sixty minutes in every hour! • We cannot do vertical subtraction using base-10 to find elapsed time. Can we find another way?
