  2. guavas • The common tropical guava (guayaba in Spanish) is native to the Caribbean. • Guavas look like a pale yellow lemon with smooth skin. • Its juicy, shocking pink to salmon-coloured flesh has a very sweet, flowery flavour. Its seeds are edible. • Guavas are an excellent source of vitamin C. Their season is August through October in the northern Hemisphere. • Because the guava is an attractive host to the tropical fruit fly, many states in the USA will not accept the fresh fruit. • Guavas are now commercially grown in Hawaii and Florida. • Most of the US guava crop is canned or processed into juices, purees and preserves.
