  6. Common Causes of Energy Loss • Thin Insulation • Old or Inefficient Furnace • Exterior Wall or Ceiling Drafts and Leaks • Dim or Inefficient Lighting • Old or Inefficient Appliances

  7. Reducing Energy Loss • Add Insulation • Maintain/Replace Furnace • Stop Leaks and Drafts • Install Efficient Lighting • Maintain/Replace Large Appliances • Renewable Energy

  8. Where do we begin? Eligibility

  9. WE ARE SEEKING RESIDENTIAL PARTICIPANTS WHO… • Are Homeowners • Own generally older homes (pre-1950s) • Are ready to take action and invest in their home • Want to make energy upgrades, but are uncertain about the most cost-effective solutions for their home • Want to help support the growth of a robust energy upgrade market for the Omaha and Lincoln areas • Need support in finding qualified contractors and making sure the work is done well • Realize the benefits of making investments in energy upgrades today • Are not a City of Omaha Employee • Live in the reEnergize Start Zone

  10. How to Get Started… Residential process

  11. Utility Baseline Data from your utility bills will provide us a baseline of your home’s past energy use. You will sign a Permission form that will allow us to request your utility data. For OPPD customers, we will provide you directions for downloading your data online and sending it to us.

  12. Healthy Home Review We will work with you to schedule a time for a trained Healthy Home Reviewer to visit your home and conduct a quick walk-through. (30 minutes – 1 hour) They will be looking for health and safety concerns and gathering insights for the professional energy evaluation that will come later in the process. They will also look at certain health issues, like potential lead, mold, and high carbon monoxide levels, and, if identified, provide you will referrals to help make your home healthier.

  13. Financial Commitment and Program Agreement NOTE: This is not a free energy evaluation (or audit) program. We are seeking homeowners ready to take action. • $250 Financial Commitment • The Program Agreement

  14. Enrollment • Once we receive your Program Agreement and the Financial Commitment, you are Enrolled

  15. Investment and Benefits Participant’s Benefits Overview • Free Healthy Home Review • A pool of pre-qualified energy evaluators and upgrade contractors based on national industry standards. • The Program will competitively bid project work to the contractor pool on your behalf • Percent of Energy Savings will be calculated by a Professional Energy Evaluator • A minimum 15% energy savings (based on use); but the program will strive for 25% energy savings on your behalf • reEnergize provides a guaranteed financial incentive of $1,000 for the minimum 15% energy savings • For each additional percentage point of energy savings reEnergize will give you $100 • Standardized contracting tools to assure quality products and service • Quality Assurance review after the work is complete • The knowledge that you are transforming the energy upgrade market for the Greater Omaha/Greater Lincoln area and the nation. Participant’s Contribution • $250 Enrollment Prepayment • Cost of upgrades minus incentives from reEnergize With a 25% energy savings, the typical household spending $2,400 in energy each year, the savings could be $600 per year, or over $50/month.* *Averaged over the 12 month period. Seasonal energy costs fluctuate based on electricity and natural gas use.

  16. Example of Investment vs. Long Term Savings * Assumes 3% energy escalation rate per year, 25% energy cost savings, investment of $3,500 in energy improvements, and no variation in consuming behavior. Based on local utility rates.

  17. Incentive Structure There is no cap on Energy Savings

  18. Energy Evaluation Once enrolled, the Program will contract with a pre-qualified professional energy evaluator (aka “auditor” or “energy rater”) who is trained in an analysis-driven, results-proven approach. (For information on the technical requirements for energy evaluators, visit http://contractor.reenergizeprogram.org/document_downloads.php) The energy evaluator will schedule a time to visit your home and determine what needs to be done to improve energy efficiency. Most evaluations will include the detailed data collection, CO testing, photos, and a blower door test. They take between 2 to 4 hours to complete. After the evaluation, you will receive a concurrence document from the program, summarizing the recommended improvements and estimated savings.

  19. Energy Upgrade • Once the concurrence has been submitted with payment, the Program will competitively bid your project amongst pre-qualified upgrade contractors. • (For information about contractor technical qualifications, visit http://contractor.reenergizeprogram.org/document_downloads.php) • All contractors must commit to the program standards and know that their work will be reviewed. • The Program will assume the risk that the bids will be higher or lower than estimated.

  20. Quality Assurance In the final step, the energy evaluator will return to do a Test-out inspection and assure that the contractor’s work and materials meet the Program standards. If they do and the participant is satisfied, then payment is issued to the contractor by the Program. In addition to the Test-out, the Program conducts Quality Assurance of both the evaluators and contractors on an on-going basis.
