Brick & Mortar • Traditional and not about to give way • Will hold sway for a long time in spite of the overwhelming benefits of alternative learning modes • Has its own advantage of breathing warmth and a personal touch into the training process • Most of us in the pre-Millennial age group went through school experiencing only brick and mortar education • Little wonder there is still so much passion for the classroom in us • But we can’t successfully resist change for too long 8/22/2014 

Alternative Learning • Today’s business requires that we do more with less • Reliance on technology is also increasing • Every proactive business today seeks to leverage on technology for efficiency in every process • The learning process has not been left out • Alternative learning methods abound today: • e-learning • m-learning • i-learning • -learning 

The GTBank Story • e-Learning was first deployed in GTBank in 2011 and code-named “eVolve” • Our initial e-learning courses were “home-made” • We acquired 100 topics from the SkillSoft suite in October 2011 and shortly after, attended the Cafe Africa workshop focussing on e-learning here in South Africa • The conference gave us an insight into the success stories of leading organisations across Africa and elsewhere • We returned to Nigeria better equipped to maximise the e-learning experience in GTBank 

The GTBank Story • There were several “+s” working in our favour: • We are a highly efficient and cost-conscious bank • Our management supports learning • Our LMS came bundled with HRMS • Most of our people are Millennials • We got a suite of off-the-shelf courses that are • Relevant, easy to navigate and friendly • We crafted an e-Learning Policy and integrated it into the Training Policy • We enabled offsite access to OLM • We initiated e-learning seasons prescribing a minimum number of courses every staff must successfully complete (Skillsoft and home-made) 

The GTBank Story • Direct mail messages and reminders were sent • to staff during each season • A countdown timer was placed on the intranet • The courses were • job-specific • grade-based • involving all ETs to DGMs • We promised to reward excellence and have made good our promise twice • We have just completed another season and the award ceremony will hold shortly • Generally, our staff members are highly excited and have overcome the initial resistance 

We were allowed to switch SkillSoft courses • midway into the contract • Our selection has something for every function and level • Huge cost savings were recorded • Average cost per e-learning user per quarter is $32.95 • Average cost of classroom training per day per staff is $113.83 • One e-learning topic for one quarter requires less than 30% of the cost of one day of classroom training. • We just renewed our SkillSoft licence • During the lull before license renewal, we received many enquiries from staff on why e-learning courses were not available The GTBank Story 

  17. Looking Ahead • We shall consolidate on our gains on e-learning • We are exploring other alternative modes (m-learning, e-library, etc) • Staying ahead of competition requires that you identify and exploit opportunities ahead of competitors • We will continue to embrace change and remain
