  6. Let’s Get to Know the Teacher My name is Patti Dragotto, and I am your child’s second grade teacher at the Mayfield Campus of the Lakeland School District. I graduated from Marywood University in 1987, with my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, along with a Concentration in Early Childhood. In May 1990, I earned my Master’s Degree in Elementary and Secondary Counselor Education.

  7. I have received my School Leadership Certification for both Elementary and Secondary Principal in 1997. I have also earned more than 50 additional credits, which all targeted meaningful skills that have been implemented within the classroom curriculum and environment. As a lifelong learner, I know my students benefit from my educational background especially from my 27 years of experience in education!

  8. Living in a small town I am fortunate to be surrounded by so many relatives who are near and dear to me. I have two beautiful daughters, Maria Ruby and Gabby Dragotto, who have grown into such amazing women; I cherish our time together. I also have two extremely active and entertaining grandsons, Dante Joseph and Marco Giovanni, they keep me moving and I am in awe every moment we are together!! Grandchildren are a true gift!

  9. Hobbies I enjoy traveling to many destinations with my family and friends. Spring, summer, fall, &/or winter…..as long as we are together making memories that’s all that matters. Time together means the world to me.

  10. A Day in Our Classroom • Students check-in each morning by putting their lunch clip on the appropriate side of our lunch chart (school lunch or lunch box). • They then unpack their backpack . • At their desk they will open their planner to show parent signature and place homework assignments along with any notes on the side of their desk.

  11. Homework Folder and Planner • They need to bring them both every day. • Once homework is completed place it in the folder. • Include any notes or information that needs to be delivered to the teacher or office. • Sign planner each night. • Turn everything into the teacher each morning.

  12. Breakfast and Morning Work • Some students will go to breakfast. • Students will complete morning work each day. (Focus is on journal writing, grammar or math skills) • After calendar and morning news, we review the work together.

In 2nd grade, that content focuses on procedures, concepts, and applications in four critical areas: *understanding of base-10 notation; *building fluency with addition and subtraction *using standard units of measure; and *describing and analyzing shapes

  17. Throughout Everyday Mathematics, emphasis is placed on: *problem solving in everyday situations and mathematical contexts; *an instructional design that revisits topics regularly to ensure depth of knowledge and long-term learning; *distributed practice through routines, games, and other activities; *teaching that supports “productive struggle” and maintains high cognitive demand; and *lessons and activities that engage all children and make mathematics fun!

  27. School-Wide Positive Behavior Program For the third year, our school will be following the School-Wide Positive Behavior Support Program. Each day your child will start with their name (on a shell) on Champs. When your child chooses to follow all rules throughout the school –he/she will stay on Champs. If your child chooses not to follow the rules, which were given, reviewed, and practiced from Day 1, they will receive a Warning. A Warning is a reminder to follow the rules. If your child decides to ignore the rules, they will move their shell to 15 Minute Reflection (Parent Connection). Here, your child will be instructed to fill out a Reflection Form during their recess time.

  28. After Reflection, comes Parent Contact. If your child has to move his/her shell to Parent Contact- you will receive a phone call from me explaining the behavior. After Parent Contact, students will have to move their shell to Refocus. If your child moves their shell to Refocus, there will be an appointment scheduled with our guidance counselor, Miss Vagnetti. Our final step in the Behavior Program is Principal. If your child moves his/her shell to Principal- you will be made aware of the situation and consequences will be provided.

  29. Rewards for Positive Behavior will be rewarded in the classroom and throughout the school. Each Special Teacher will give out a Golden Trophy every Friday to the most deserving class. We will also have a school-wide Blowout every 30 days for those students who exhibited positive behavior 25/30 days. Each homeroom teacher will keep track of their students’ behavior. If your child moves his/her shell off of Warning 5 times throughout a 30 day cycle-they will not participate in the Blowout.

  30. There is no exception. Your child does not have the chance to move their shell back up the ladder throughout the day, except if they are on Champs and are seen doing something out of the ordinary by a homeroom or other teacher. In this scenario, your child may receive a Golden Ticket. If a child receives a Golden Ticket, he/she is moved to Mayfield Stars. Every child who receives a Golden Ticket will be included in a weekly drawing. The weekly drawing will be held each Friday in order to announce the MayfieldStar of the week.

  31. Your child may be included in this drawing- regardless of where their shell is on the ladder if they receive a Golden Ticket. Please ask your child about their day! This behavior program is implemented so all positive behaviors are rewarded and so instruction time can be increased.
