  2. UNF OLLI Relationship with Host Institution • OLLI at UNF is 1 of 9 program’s in Division of Continuing Education (DCE) • DCE • Reports to Academic Affairs • 1 of 3 centers that serve as gateways to community engagement • UNF • One of 11 in Florida’s state university system

  3. Why partner with Host Institution? Who? • Leverage UNF OLLI’s greatest asset – people – to add dimension to the traditional student’s educational experience • Contribute to UNF DCE’s profile on campus • Strengthen OLLI members’ awareness of their connection to UNF and its DCE • Provide value added lifelong learning experiences to OLLI members

  4. Partnership: What? • For the benefit of traditional UNF students • UNF volunteers (VOLLIs) • Provide learning experiences that compliment or extend classroom experiences • Share life & work experiences to inspire & support aspirations

  5. Partnership: How? • Partnership programs with UNF’s Honors College • Career Connections • Judging Student Research in Poster Sessions • International Visitor Seminars

Career Connections (Part I) • 2009 – 2012 • Director of Honors identified professions of interest to honors students • President of OLLI extended invitations to VOLLIs and OLLI students • Honors hosted monthly “lunch & learns” • 1 OLLI member met with 15 to 20 students interested learning more about that month’s featured profession

  7. Career Connections (Part II) • 2012 - ? (Inaugural program tonight!) • Purpose • Provide all 200 Honors students with life/career perspective from the retirement end • Demonstrate how real life twists & turns affect a career plan • Demonstrate the impact that contingency, chance, flexibility and new information have on life/career • Expose students to careers they didn’t know existed • Format: Table Talk • 8 OLLI members from a variety of backgrounds • 1 OLLI per room • Students select where to participate

Judging: STARS [Scholars Transforming Academic Research Symposium] • Purpose • Provide traditional students with valuable out of classroom learning experiences in a safe supportive environment • Prepare students to make professional presentations • 16 VOLLIs • Provided with rubric for judging • Poster: focus, organization, construction, graphics, content • Oral Presentation: content, elocution, delivery

International Visitors Seminars • OLLI Instructor involved with GlobalJax (local chapter of U.S. Department of State International Visitor Leadership Program) • Committee member for hosting delegations of emerging leaders from around the globe • Teaches a 6 week OLLI course (e.g. Understanding Our World: Africa) • Designs seminars for exchange with visiting delegations • OLLI & UNF Honors students invited to participate

Partnership:Benefits to UNF OLLI • Add dimension to VOLLI member experience • Validates VOLLI member • Embraces their altruism • Adds value to their life and career in retirement • Adds dimension to their lifelong learning journey through work with traditional students • “Repays” UNF and DCE for their significant investment in and ongoing support of OLLI • Properly contextualizes VOLLI members in the university
