  5. Course Description-Catalog • An introduction to the basic concepts of Management Information System design, implementation and control. Application of computer-based MIS and decision models to business and management situations and problems. PgP MIS 362

  6. Course Description-1 • Investigate MIS fundamentals • Examine design, implementation, control, evaluation, and strategic use of modern, computer-based information systems • Apply concepts to business data processing, office automation, information reporting, and decision making PgP MIS 362

  20. Project 2-Knowledge Workers • One or 2 students assist knowledge worker • Emphasize use of software to solve business problems • Typically Excel, Access, Outlook, dual monitors or some technology issue • Teach, assist class at Winona Senior Center PgP MIS 362

  21. Project 3- Business Mentor • Choose mentor • Prepare questions • Interview mentor • Create report PgP MIS 362

  22. Participation • Active engagement in problem solving • Counts towards grade • Attendance: highly recommended-in class, web conferencing, D2L discussion boards, using Tegrity recordings. PgP MIS 362

  23. Midterm • Test knowledge of basic concepts • Hands on problems using software applications, notably Excel PgP MIS 362

  25. Policy on Collaboration • You are permitted to work together on Assignments, Projects. However… • During exams you are on your own, including doing hands-on problems in Excel. Therefore… • It behooves you to actually do the work! PgP MIS 362

  26. Grade Weighting • 15% Book quizzes in D2L (chapters 1-12, 14) • 30% Assignments • 5% Meaningful participation • 15% Projects (P1-5%; P2-5%; P3-5%) • 10% Midterm • 25%  Final PgP MIS 362

  27. Final Grade • Based on 100 total points • A 90% or greater • B 80 to 89% • C 70 to 79% • D 60 to 69% • F less than 59% PgP MIS 362

  28. Grading • Late Assignments are not accepted! • A pattern of being late with assignment or project submissions will result in the loss of at least a letter grade. • Poor spelling/grammar will be penalized! • Up to 10% of item grade • Make use of the Writing Center • No extra credit, no make-up exams! • Professor Paulson does not give out grades • Students earn grades!
