  1. THE MESSAGE OF THE CROSS For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. Connecting the Dots ......1 Corinthians 1:18

  2. 1/ For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing 2/ For the message of the cross to us who are being saved it is the power of God. THE MESSAGE OF THE CROSS

  3. "What is the message of the cross?" • * The message of the cross is the ‘the power of God’ to those who are being saved • * The message of the cross is the ‘wisdom of God’to those who are being saved • * The message of the cross is a ‘traumatizing message’ • * The message of the cross is a ‘simple message’ • * The message of the cross ismissing in many Churches today: • * The message of the cross offers eternal life with God. • * The message of the cross is a love story

  4. The message of the cross is a love story • Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God • Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. • Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. • Romans 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. • Romans 10:13 For "whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved." • Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

  5. Foolishness - moria mo-ree'- silliness, absurdity: The manner of preaching the gospel was foolishness . It is to the Jews a stumbling-block, and to the Greeks foolishness. The Jewish thought that it was incredible for a person who ended his life on a cross could possibly be the Anointed Messiah The Greeks loved human wisdom, and developed many systems of philosophy. 1 Cor. 1:18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

  6. Perishing - apollumi ap-ol'-loo-mee literally or figuratively: - destroy fully, die, lose, mar, perish. 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 1 Cor. 1:18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

  7. Luke 13:3 "I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish. 2 Cor. 4:3 But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing 1 Cor. 1:18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

  8. A. He lies and deceives Gen. 3:13 B. If an unbeliever desires to be 'religious' Satan will transform himself into an angel of light 2 Cor 11:14 C. Satan deceives unbelievers by making them think that living in sin is fun. D. Satan blinds the eyes of unbelievers 2 Cor. 4:4 E. Satan binds or enslaves unbelievers Luke 13:15,16 Satan's Strategy with Unbelievers

  9. E. Satan binds or enslaves unbelievers Luke 13:15,16 Luke 13:15,16 The Lord then answered him and said, "Hypocrite! Does not each one of you on the Sabbath loose his ox or donkey from the stall, and lead it away to water it? “So ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound––think of it––for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath?" Satan's Strategy with Unbelievers

  10. The god of this age is John 12:31 he is called “the prince of this world.” Eph. 2:2 he is called “the prince of the power of the air.” Eph. 6:12 is referred to under the names of “principalities, and powers,” “the rulers of the darkness of this world,” and “spiritual wickedness in high places.” 1 Cor. 1:18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

  11. natural man or -unregenerate man - stands opposed to “spiritual.” the man who is under the influence of carnal or human wisdom. 1 Cor 2:14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

  12. if our gospel is veiled - is not understood -It is not to any lack of clearness in the gospel itself, but to other causes. -It was not because God had purposely concealed its meaning. it is veiled to those who are perishing (lost) -if a man’s heart is veiled to the Gospel, it is a proof that he is among the lost -This present world is based on a system that is at war with God. 2 Cor. 4:3,4a But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing (lost), whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe....

  13. whose minds the god of this age has blinded * The increasing diminishment of God. * Replace supernatural explanations with natural ones. * The inconsistency of world religions. * Incorrect Church Teaching * Lies of Evolution * Human Wisdom * Family Teaching & Tradition of man * Baptism * Good Deeds 2 Cor. 4:3,4a But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing (lost), whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe....

  14. * Refers to Christians, as being saved from the power and condemnation of sin. * It is not about you quitting your sins! It is about you coming to Jesus by faith! * It's not about turning over a new leaf, but placing your faith in Jesus and Him alone for salvation! 1 Cor. 1:18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

  15. THE MESSAGE OF THE CROSS 1 Cor. 1:18 Luke 13:24 "Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able. Literally, “agonize” --means that we should be diligent, be active, be earnest; that we should make it our first and chief business to bring our sinfulness to Christ, and to endeavor to enter into heaven. GNB2 Peter 3:15 Look on our Lord's patience as the opportunity he is giving you to be saved, just as our dear friend Paul wrote to you, using the wisdom that God gave him.

  16. THE MESSAGE OF THE CROSS 1 Cor. 1:18 Give your life to Jesus Christ today
