  1. Mitzvah projectThe teacher: Ann KocherAustin JCC COMMUNITY /MITZVAH PROJECT We had been exploring our community be learning about Community Helpers: Fire Fighters, Doctors, Shop Owners, Dentists, and Veterinarians when the wonderful book Bim and Bam arrived from the PJ Library. Using the story of the book I created a Community/Mitzvah Project for my Bunnies. I read the book, Bim and Bam and explored the concept of good deeds with my class. We also discovered that a girl, Bim can be a builder; and a boy, Bam can be a baker. I told them that we were going to make a big cookie to eat and share with the Turtle Room. My children were excited by this idea since we had made a big cookie to give as a thank you to the fire fighters we visited the week before at Station 19. We made a hand print card to give to the Turtles (a Bunny Room tradition), and we practiced songs to sing to the Turtles. The Turtles are a toddler class so I explained to my class that a Mitzvah is something you do without expecting anything in return. The Bunnies loved exploring the concept of good deeds, and discovered that doing for others can bring them good feelings, and be fun.
