Albert the Elevator: A Rube-Goldberg Extravaganza of Physics and Teamwork
Discover the captivating journey of "Albert the Elevator," a Rube-Goldberg device that intricately demonstrates the principles of physics through a series of ingenious steps. Starting with a marble rolling down tubing, the sequence knocks a golf ball into a cup, activating a system that ultimately lifts a 1 kg weight through a pulley. Our team — Blake Adams, Jewett Moss, Matt Jones, and Caroline Sneed — successfully navigated construction challenges, including switching materials and adjusting heights, showcasing the power of teamwork and the conservation of energy in action!

Albert the Elevator A Rube-Goldberg Extravaganza
Our Team • Blake Adams • Jewett Moss • Matt Jones • Caroline Sneed
Rube-Goldberg Device Start: marble down a series of tubing Marble knocks golf ball off of platform Golf ball falls into cup 1 Cup 1 lifts cup 2 through pulley Now lever is unbalanced and weighted bottle falls End: 1 kg weight is lifted through the pulley
Conservation of Energy • GPEmarble→KEmarble • Elastic collision: KEmarble→ KEgolf ball • Decrease of GPEcup1 & Increase of GPEcup2 • GPEbottle →KEbottle
Construction & Design Issues • Switched from plastic cups to bottles • Change the height of the lever • Change the height of the pulley • Lifting weight in 10 seconds
Conclusions • Our setup was successful • We witnessed Physics at work : Dropping a marble → lifted a 1kg weight • We used teamwork to accomplish a task
