  2. What you will learn (Content purpose) • * Group Response Cards: Your group has only one set of response cards and must agree on an answer. • Understand that advances in technology allow scientists to investigate nature more thoroughly.

  3. What you will say (Language Purpose) Use the following terminology in your group’s answers: sample, evidence, analysis/analyze, examine, equipment, technology.

  4. What you will do with your group (PGW Outcome) • Report group’s answers to questions about advanced technology used during the Iceman investigation. Resource: • Iceman text: iScienceNOS 20-27

  5. SI Base Units • Look at pg NOS13 . . . Note units and symbols we use to measure in science • All Scientists use the International System of Units (SI) for their measurements.

  6. Scientific Tools (pg NOS 16) • Some scientific tools include: • Science Journal • Ruler • Meterstick • Beaker • Graduated Cylinder • Triple-beam balance • Thermometer • Computers

  7. Tools used by earth scientists (pg 18) • Binoculars • Compass • Wind Vane and Anemometer • Streak Plate

  8. Precision • No measuring tool is perfectly precise • Scientists round numbers

  9. Technology • Understand that advances in technology allow scientists to investigate nature more thoroughly.
