General information • Population: 2.4 million • Language: English and combination of English and African words • Religion: Christianity in various denominations • Location: Jamaica is the third largest and most westerly English speaking island in the Caribbean, it is 90 miles south of Cuba and 550 miles south of Miami. • Government: Constitutional parliamentary democracy. • Industry – tourism (restaurants, hotels), agriculture (sugar, condensed milk, rum edible oils, cigars), and minerals.

  6. Food • The food in Jamaica consists of a cuisine of spicy, colorful foods that include salt fish; rice and peas; jerk chicken, fish and pork; curried goat; pepper pot soup; roasted yams; bananas fritters; salads’ fruit and exotic desserts.
