Importance of Oak Woodland • Common ecosystem within the western US. • Between 300 and 500 species of oaks worldwide. • 60 species of amphibians and reptiles, 100 species of mammals, 150 species of birds, rely on oaks. • Provides food (ex. Acorns). • Provides shelter, nesting sites, and shade.

  5. Scientists.. • Divide particular ecosystem into sections. • Observe and record what they find in each section. • Gather information. • Draw conclusions about characteristics of ecosystem.

  7. Rules • 3 Pictures for each group. • Observe the Picture. • Write down what you observe: • Different objects found. • Describe functions of each object. • Find relationships within picture.

  9. Looking at Mural • What relationships do you discover within the oak woodland? • Do you see anything else once the pictures are gathered? • Do you see any specific patterns?

  10. Conclusion • Many dependencies. • Many processes help maintain the oak ecosystem (ex. Water, light, temperature, and soil). • Many relationships among living things, processes and patterns that drive survival and evolution. • Many things affected when an Oak gets cut down.
