Background • State information about DO that many are unaware of • OMT is used by DOs • DOs go to a school different than MDs • DOs are allowed to do everything an MD can do • Osteopathic medicine is a relatively new practice • Not as trusted as traditional treatments • Johnson- OMT techniques most commonly used by DO • State thesis

  3. Viewpoint 1- better than MD • Cerittelli- OMT treats migranes better • Wilson- non invasive and stroke only 1 in a million. Mostly just soreness as side effect.

  4. Viewpoint 2- worse than MD • AAMC and AACOM- DO MCAT scores and GPA • Jensen- MD assumes 6 trips to DO not cheaper than 2 trips to MD for perscriptions • Brolinson- OMT has flaws, cannot improve athleticism • Vogel- OMT risks not studied. Low amount of research on osteopathy • Wilson- side effects include soreness and stroke

  5. Viewpoint 3- equal to MD • Allee- OMT accepted by new doctors • Olds- treats ligament pain just as well as traditional • Schlitzcus- DO compete equally with MD for residency • Jensen- treats back pain just as well as traditional • Walkowski- OMT treats pain as well as traditional
