  4. Computer hardware in TUTL Visitors and counter attendants all use the same new computer sets, which were procured at the same time with the new building. PC – HP Compaq dc5800 SFF (Intel Pentium E5200 2.5GHz, 4 GB RAM, 160 GB HDD, Windows XP/Vista) Thin Clients – Fujitsu FUTRO S450 Monitors 22“:HP L2245wg & Samsung SyncMaster 2243BW HP Keyboard with integrated Smart Card Terminal

  5. Computer hardware in TUTL • Computers used by the staff have significant age variation. • Operating system dominantly Windows XP (some Windows 7) • 2 color laser printers, 1 color ink printer, 6 BW laser printers, 6 multifunction printers

Network • Internet connection speeds:Tallinn University of Technology – 10 Gbit/sLibrary – 100 Mbit/s (router is the bottleneck) • Local area network in library:Mixed gigabit and fast ethernet network,Cat6 copper and fiber-optic cabling,Nortel 4550T, 4548GT network switches (and a few other models)

  9. Wi-Fi The entire building has access to public Wi-Fi.There are four Wi-Fi access points on every floor, which provides a more or less optimal signal strength throughout the building. Wi-Fi is managed by the University’s IT department, not the library’s. Wi-Fi access point on the ceiling

Information searching skills environment • Web-based distance education environment • Created in 2000. • Student registers in the system with matriklenumber and ID number • Everyone gets individual questions to answer • A librarian will check the answers and grade the results • When the student logs in again, they will see the results

  25. Inventory software For easier inventory we procured handheld terminals Honeywell Dolphin 9900 and software from the company ID Balti AS.

Terminals in the reading areas • 29 terminals for regular use and 16 for information kiosks • The terminals are all Fujutsu FUTRO S450 • Advantages over PCs: easier to manage, silent work (important in a library), smaller • In areas where it matters, they offer the same functionalities as PCs

  34. Printing and copying There are copy machines on 2., 3. and 4. floor. These copy machines can be used for print jobs directly from the network. The copy machine on the second floor is cabable ofprinting in color.
