  5. Different Spiritual Gifts--Unity • We confess the same Lord. 12:1-3 • We depend on the same God. 12:4-6 • We are gifted by the same Spirit. 12:7-11 • We all have the same baptism. 12:13

General Principles • Every Christian has at least one spiritual gift; no Christian has every spiritual gift; one particular gift is not given to every Christian • Each gift is to be used for the common good • All the gifts are important • Gifts are given according to God’s will • All gifts are given by the same Spirit • All gifts must be used under the control of the Holy Spirit

  8. Unity in Christ • Every gift is given by the same Spirit. • The gifts are diverse. • We have one Lord and are united in Christ. • Then there is maturity in the church.

The Metaphor of the Body • All parts serve an important function, and the body needs every part. • Different parts specialize in different functions. • Value is often inversely proportional to appearance. • God designs the parts and the arrangement. • All the parts are interconnected and interdependent. • All function at the direction of the head.
