Existing Knowledge… • What can you/we already include in a response to this unit’s questions: • How are communities structured; what are their necessary parts? • What is the purpose of government? • What is an economy? • What is a social class? • What are civil rights? • What is slavery? How did it start? • What is the role of health & the impact of disease? • Think about the past and the present, and how change may or may not occur over time. Fill in the “I Know 1.0” Column. Make contributions to at least 3 “We Know 1.0” posters. Write down at least 2 of your classmates’ contributions in each row of the “We Know 1.0” column

  4. In This Unit… Way of Thinking: Adopting a Historical Perspective What other kinds of “perspective” have you heard of? What is a historical perspective? How do we adopt one? What are we doing when we “adopt a historical perspective?

At any one point, different historical actors may have acted on the basis of conflicting beliefs and ideologies, so understanding diverse perspectives is also a key to historical perspective-taking. …historical perspective is very different from the common-sense notion of identification with another person.
