  1. Clinical Chemistry MLCC-201 Supervision Prof.Dr. ShehataMahmoudElSewedy Dean Dr. HewidaFadel Lecturer

  2. Outcomes By the end of this lecture, the students will be aware with an overview, importance and contents of Clinical Chemistry course

  3. Clinical chemistry is one of the most rapidly advancing areas of laboratory.

  4. Clinical Chemistry applies chemical, molecular and cellular techniques to understand and evaluate of human health and disease.

  5. Analysis of the various body fluids and theirrole in clinical diagnosis will be discussed in detail.

  6. The general clinical chemistry is involved in the study and measurement of the chemical composition of blood and other body fluids. Among biochemical components measured are lipids, enzymes, electrolytes, substrates, and proteins.

  7. Metabolic changes associated with specific disorders may give rise to a change in the biochemical profile of a particular body fluid, e.g. blood glucose in diabetes mellitus. Glucose levels are greatly reduced in the cerebrospinal fluid in bacterial meningitis.

  8. purpose of performing a test could be Diagnosis and Prognosis. Assess the severity of a disease process or monitor its progress. Evaluate or monitor the effectiveness or potential side effects of a particular therapeutic regimen. Probable outcome of a disease.

  9. Recommended textbook Burtis CA, Ashwood ER, Bruns D. Tietz. Fundamentals of Clinical chemistry. Philadelphia:  Saunders, 6th Edition, 2008.
