Evran Mersin Director of Aid First Organization • Evran Mersin who is the director of Aid First Organization is saying that; The World Bank defines extreme poverty as living on less than $1.25 a day. • Of the 1.4 billion people around the world who live in that degree of poverty, over 400 million of them are in sub-Saharan Africa. • That is more than half the population of sub-Saharan Africa living in extreme poverty. • Think about that for a second. The figures are staggering.
Evran Mersin States Poverty Stats • Behind each number is a human being: a mother, father, sister or brother, son or daughter. Real people living in very real poverty. Evran Mersin states that; • 2.5 Billion people around the World do not have access to adequate sanitation and about 885 Million people do not have access to clean water • 4.100 children die each day from severe diarrhea, as a result of poor sanitation and hygiene • Approximately 9.2 Million children under the age of 5 die each year, Mostly from preventable diseases (that is approximately 25.000 children each day) • Sub-Saharan Africa remains the region most affected by the aids pandemic . over 22 million africans are living with HIV. Young people account for half of all new infections. • Nearly 11.500 people die every day from HIV/AIDS. Tuberculosis and Malaria. Nearly 8.000 of them are in Sub-Saharan Africa.
