  3. Skills Required for Medical Field Must have a good command of the English language. Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively. Must make decisions and solve problems quickly. Must continually strive to learn new skills and techniques throughout your career in your field.

Allied Health Program Selection • Selection based on a score composed of… • Cumulative grade point average (GPA) • “Bonus points” Score GPA Calculation: • Allregionally accredited college-level work included • Exceptions may relate to • Academic Fresh start • Repeated courses • International work • If student has less than 12 hours of college, high school transcript is used

Bonus Points Continued • For all college level semester hours completed with a ‘C’ or better • 13 hours --- 0.1 bonus points • 26 hours --- 0.2 bonus points • ……….. • 120 hours --- 0.9 bonus points • Bachelor’s earned --- 0.1 bonus points Applicants have the potential to earn an additional 1.0 points to their G.P.A. rating.

  8. Bonus Points Continued • Work experience in a related field (Physical Therapist Assistant ONLY) • Minimum of 80 hours = 0.1 point • Maximum of 2000 hours = 0.5 points • Work experience must be documented on appropriate form and must be documented by a supervisor.

  9. Final Score = Cumulative Grade Point Average + Bonus Points Earned The top 50 (highest scores) eligible students are invited to General Information Session. Out of the top 50 we select the top 24-32 for each program. All remaining students are alternates.

How to get a higher score… • Continue taking general education courses • Take required science courses • highest grade possible • repeat a course if necessary to improve grade • Improve your overall GPA • retake courses (non-program) with a low or failing grades • with repeats, highest grade used to calculate GPA • academic fresh start • Obtain work experience (If applicable)

Following Application • Two-Three weeks after deadline date • Students with top scores invited to information session • Notice of non-acceptance returned to other applicants • Following information session • Top candidates offered position • Others put on alternate list • New application must be made each year to be eligible for selection.

  12. Requirements for Application • Accepted as a student to TCC • Meet Texas Success Initiative (TSI) requirements • Pass the Texas Higher Education Assessment (THEA) test; …or • Pass the ACCUPLACER exam; …or • Earn a “C” or higher in • MATH 0350 or MATH 0109 • RDNG 0363 • ENGL 0325

Additional Requirements by Program • Radiologic Technology • Complete (2) Pre-requisite Sciences • Respiratory Care • Complete (4) Pre-requisite Sciences • Physical Therapist Assistant • Submit Research Paper • Long Term Care Administration • Open Enrollment, no Application process required. (Must have Bachelor degree to get licensed by DADS)

Long Term Care Administration Program length 1 Semester Degree Certificate Starting pay $30 - $45/ hour Applicants/accepted Dependent Princess Jackson – coordinator – (817)515-2409 To sit for licensure exam, individuals must have a Bachelor’s degree along with their certificate of completion of LTCA program.

Nursing Program Selection • Selection based on a score composed of… • Cumulative grade point average (GPA) of Pre-requisite Sciences (ONLY) • HESI Exam Score Science GPA Calculation: • Courses are (BIOL 2401, BIOL 2402, BIOL 2420 and CHEM 1406) • BIOL courses must be within 5 years. • Applicants have 2 attempts only to receive their competing grade within Science course. • A withdrawal or drop counts as an attempt. • Recommended – They complete General Biology first.
