  1. IoT and Telecom Infrastructure GISFI # 07, Dec 19-22, 2011, New Delhi Author: Niranth Organization: Huawei Doc No: GISFI_IoT_201112152

  2. Agenda • Introduction • Business-Use Cases • Impact on IoT Architecture • Considerations

  3. Introduction • Sensors are becoming more and more personal. • Sensor data handlers (from user and infrastructure perspective) needs security and QoS guarantees. • Applications need to easily handle these aspects. • End users (Common man, Government) need to trust the system that handles the sensor data easily. • Currently Governments (Developed Economies) are partnering with Operators to setup infrastructure where common man can operate without worries and with predictable quality. • The need for the applications in this space and the constraints on the infrastructure is similar in Indian scenario especially w.r.t Rural and Semi-Urban sectors. 4. Business-Use Cases • Many names: Smart City, Smart Planet, Intelligent Nation, T-City • Aim - Deliver a range of cost-effective one-stop services for governmental affairs, entertainment, education, plus health and tourism inquiries. • Characteristics • e-Government: can greatly enhance governmental transparency and increase the efficiency of handling governmental affairs. Citizens can quickly inquire about or apply for services at home. They can also view news, weather and traffic reports, and tourist information through various terminals, even discuss government policies through online forums. • e-Traffic: mitigates heavy traffic by electronically monitoring and diverting traffic, while reducing emissions and energy consumption through the remote control of stop lights and other energy-guzzling devices needed to keep a city running. • Video surveillance: monitors the city in real time to help prevent crime, conduct research and allocate resources appropriately. • e-Health and e-Education: allow citizens access to high-quality medical care and education at home. Through high-definition videos or networks, citizens can consult experts worldwide and search relevant information anytime and anywhere. • e-Home: helps to ensure the safety of elders and children that are home alone through remote monitoring and can even control indoor electrical appliances.
