Zumba Flash Mob: A Celebration of Community Service at Valdosta State University

At Valdosta State University, I teach Zumba classes across campus and organize special events for fundraising. Recently, I choreographed a Zumba flash mob to engage the community and support a specific program. This experience demonstrated the essence of service learning, as I utilized my skills to benefit others. Collaborating with my coworker, Deanna, we showcased the fundamentals of Zumba while fostering community spirit. Zumba flash mob • At my university I teach Zumba classes all over campus and occasionally I am asked to do a special event to raise money for a specific program. • The Zumba flash mob required that I choose and choreograph the best songs to not only pull crowd attention but also effectively demonstrate the fundamentals of Zumba.

  3. During the time that I, and my co worker put together the flash mob, I learned and demonstrated the definition of service learning because I used a skill that I had obtained through my education to help others which helped to evoke the values that my community had taught me.

  7. The community service that I participated in taught me the value of hard work. Most people think that money is the only objective, however when you do something for free, it gives you the opportunity to witness the other rewards for your work.
