  2. A hundred years ago, Mary Anderson saw a need.

  3. Streetcar drivers had no way to clean rain and snow from their windshields.

  4. Mary sketched a wooden arm with rubber strips and a lever inside to move it.

  5. The idea didn’t catch on at first. People said it would distract drivers.

  6. Just 13 years later, Henry Ford put one on every Model T.

  7. Now every car has windshield wipers!

  8. Mary Anderson’s invention makes our lives safer.
