  2. What is Gamekeepers thumb? • is a type of injury to the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) of the thumb.

  3. Gamekeepers thumb • The UCL is torn at the insertion site into the proximal phalanx of the thumb

  4. How its injured • Is common in gamekeepers, skiers, and other athletes • Occurs from bracing a fall on the thumb, or chronic hyper abduction

  5. Treatment • simply immobilizing the joint in a thumb spica splint. • In a complete tear it requires surgery

  6. Recovery • Put in a splint for 3-4 weeks after surgery. • Eventually motion to thumb returns • Return to sports 3-4 months after
