  2. The extraordinary growth of transition • 305 Transition Initiatives • 1,000s of ‘mullers’ • In over 28 countries • Transition Handbook sold over 30,000 copies • Translated into 5 other languages • All eyes are on Totnes, the flagship of the fastest growing global movement today

  3. Transition Streets • DECC’s Low Carbon Communities Challenge - £10m fund • Domestic carbon reduction and renewable energy • High profile research project • Gov learning from communities • Create something replicable and inspirational • TTT was awarded £625,000

  4. Stages • Behaviour Change: involve ~340 households in Transition Together • Energy efficiency: training, partnerships, guidance, motivation • Renewable energy: provide grants for bulk-purchased solar PV systems • Public awareness: install a large system on the Civic Hall with public display

  5. Project partners • Totnes Town Council - part funding for solar PV on the Civic Hall • Energy Savings Trust - provide Home Energy Checks and training • Devon Association for Renewable Energy - provide training on renewables • South Hams District Council - additional grants and loans for low-income households • Beco Solar – our supplier

  6. Status today • 18 groups in progress for Round 1 • 16 Street Assessors in place • Solar PV installations underway • Social aspects are most important • Other measures being recorded • Planning for Round 2 • More support for low income? • Include other technologies? • Provide expert energy audits? • Use some money for an investment project?

  7. Civic Hall solar PV system • 14 Kwp system • Public energy generation display • £66,000 • Total savings of about £5,400 per annum
