  1. A Trip to Spain Unit Portfolio Presentation Lisa Garcia

  2. Unit Summary • Students will develop a travel brochure and a powerpoint presentation for a trip through Spain. They will find information on the historic sites, art, music, language, gastronomy and other cultural aspects of the various regions of Spain. Students will then determine which itinerary would best suit their interests and show the diversity of the regions chosen.

  3. Curriculum-Framing Questions • Essential Question What are the components of a culture? • Unit Questions What influence has religion had on Spanish culture in general? How does geography and climate determine the gastronomy of a region? Does political history impact culture? • Content Questions What are the official languages of Spain? What is the importance of the places you chose to visit? What other countries and cultures have made an impact on Spanish culture?

  4. A Trip to Spain • This project will help my students develop 21st century skills by: • Collaborating with peers. • Gathering and analyzing data in order to draw conclusions. • Solving problems and making decisions. • Communicating with others in a publication and presentation.

  5. Assessment of Students • Prior to starting the unit, the students will complete a KWL Chart and participate in a discussion about their prior knowledge of Spain and its culture. • While working on the unit, students will complete a series of scheduled assignments. Classroom discussion, sharing of ideas and teacher observation will also be used to monitor progress. • Upon completion of the unit, students will produce a brochure and a power point presentation of their itinerary. Follow up discussions will be held about what new information was discovered and what prior knowledge was correct and /or incorrect.

  6. Feedback • Ideasto get students to cooperate and make progress while working in groups. • Making technology available to all my students. • Find out how to get all students to be responsible for the completion of their tasks.
