Introduction - National Context Urban Regeneration Companies Urban Regeneration Companies (URC’s) are local partnerships with the aim of achieving the radical physical, economic and social transformation of towns and cities in declining urban areas. • 23 Urban Regeneration Companies in the UK. • English Partnerships are supporting 19 URC’s including Gloucester. • URC’s are independent companies established by the relevant Local Authority and Regional Development Agency working alongside English Partnerships and other local groups. • The principal aim is to engage the private sector in sustainable development set within a wider Regeneration Framework.
