  3. ancestors • Define : people who were members of your family before the current generation • Example : Shawn’s ancestors came from Asia. • Ask : What do you know about your ancestors?

  4. numerous • Define : a group with many (time and time again) • Example : After numerous tries, Sally finally made the soccer team. • Ask : What is a synonym for numerous?

  5. segregation • Define : the separation of people or things • Example : In America, segregation meant separating people by color, making one group use different schools, restaurants, stores, and seats on the bus. • Ask : What adjectives describe segregation?

  6. unsuspecting • Define : to be trusting • Example : The gleeful puppy was unsuspecting that he was going to the veterinarian. • Ask : How is being unsuspecting different from being cautious?

  7. avoided • Define : stayed away from • Example : Jama rode her bike and avoided busy streets. • Ask : Describe a time when you avoided something.

  8. injustice • Define : something unfair has been done • Example : Not allowing women to vote until 1920 was in injustice to women. • Ask : What is an antonym for injustice?

  9. As we reflect on the life and wisdom of Martin Luther King, Jr., let us celebrate our differences and learn from each others’ experiences. We will celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday!
