FACT2 2013 Task Group Progress Developmental Education Task Group (DETG) Chair:Nicole Adsitt, nicole.adsitt@cayuga-cc.edu Coordinator, Developmental Studies & Instructor, Cayuga Community College The environmental scan of resources will focus on the following areas through four subcommittees: 1.       Developmental Reading 2.       Developmental Writing 3.       Developmental Math 4.       College level courses using embedded skills approach • Paired courses • 3+1 skills lab formats • Supplemental instruction using skills tutors within content courses Subcommittees will be reviewing literature, looking at institutional pilots/models, specific technology strategies in order to develop recommendations and resource lists that highlight best practices.

FACT2 2013 Task Group Progress Developmental Education Task Group (DETG) • Subcommittees are actively researching and evaluating best practices, reviewing literature, looking at institutional pilots/models, and specific technology strategies in order to develop recommendations. • Common themes across groups are: researching course redesign models (Emporium, accelerated, self-paced, etc), MOOCS/open source educational resources, software like MyFoundationsLabby Cengage, and contextualized/embedded teaching models. • The reading subcommittee is also exploring Inquiry Based Learning Models. The math subcommittee participated in the NROC webinar and will be looking into the model and Hippocampus. • The reading and writing subcommittees had a joint meeting and decided to merge in the near future. • Next steps: continue subcommittee work, review recent SUNY survey data related to developmental education, possible poll to Chief Academic Officers to ask for supplemental information, review timeline at March meeting
