Where Self-Control is Needed • With respect to habits or conduct • Joseph • Genesis 39:7-8 7 And it came to pass after these things, that his master's wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me. 8 But he refused, and said unto his master's wife, Behold, my master knoweth not what is with me in the house, and he hath put all that he hath into my hand: Self Control

  11. Where Self-Control is Needed • With respect to habits or conduct • Jesus • 1 Peter 2:23 who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: Self Control

  12. Where Self-Control is Needed • With respect to our language • Bridle our tongue • James 3:5-6 5 So the tongue also is a little member, and boasts great things. Behold, how much wood is kindled by how small a fire! 6 And the tongue is a fire: the world of iniquity among our members is the tongue, which defiles the whole body. Self Control

  16. Where Self-Control is Needed • With respect to tattling or gossip • Caution is needed • 1 Peter 4:15 For let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evil-doer, or as a meddler in other men's matters: Self Control

  17. Where Self-Control is Needed • With respect to covetousness • Covetousness strictly forbidden • Romans 13:9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not covet, and if there be any other commandment, it is summed up in this word, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.

  18. Where Self-Control is Needed • With respect to covetousness • Covetousness strictly forbidden • Ephesians 5:3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as becomes saints;

Where Self-Control is Needed • With respect to fleshly desires • Passions must be controlled • Romans 13:14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof. 24. Where Self-Control is Needed • With respect to anger • Often leads to revenge • Romans 12:17-19 17 Render to no man evil for evil. Take thought for things honorable in the sight of all men. 18 If it be possible, as much as in you lieth, be at peace with all men.19 Avenge not yourselves, beloved, but give place unto the wrath of God: for it is written, Vengeance belongs unto me; I will recompense, saith the Lord.

  25. Where Self-Control is Needed • With respect to anger • Often leads to revenge • 1 Thessalonians 5:15 See that none render unto any one evil for evil; but always follow after that which is good, one toward another, and toward all. “It is he who is in the wrong who first gets angry”
