Creating a Persistent Link In three easy steps: • Locate full-text article in Ebsco or ProQuest database • In the citation view of the article, copy the persistent link listed by the vendor • Attach any prefix necessary for authentication to the link DONE!
append authenticating prefix… • UT TeleCampus prefix = http://libproxy.utsystem.edu/login?url= • PURL = http://search.epnet.com/direct.asp?an=11932988&db=aph • Complete PURL = http://libproxy.utsystem.edu/login?url=http://search.epnet.com/direct.asp?an=11932988&db=aph
append authenticating prefix… • UT TeleCampus prefix =http://libproxy.utsystem.edu/login?url= • PURL =http://gateway.proquest.com/openurl?url_ver=Z39.88-2004&res_dat=xri:pqd&rft_val_fmt=info:ofi/fmt:kev:mtx:journal&genre=article&rft_dat=xri:pqd:did=000000332978271&svc_dat=xri:pqil:fmt=html&req_dat=xri:pqil:pq_clntid=52665 • Complete PURL =http://libproxy.utsystem.edu/login?url=http://gateway.proquest.com/openurl?url_ver=Z39.88-2004&res_dat=xri:pqd&rft_val_fmt=info:ofi/fmt:kev:mtx:journal&genre=article&rft_dat=xri:pqd:did=000000332978271&svc_dat=xri:pqil:fmt=html&req_dat=xri:pqil:pq_clntid=52665
Be sure to check… • Appropriate prefix for your campus library • No spaces between prefix and vendor PURL • That prefix/PURL combo works from computer not on your campus network • That instructions are included as to correct UN/PW combo to use.
Be aware that… • Different Vendors call PURLs different things • A PURL that works great on campus may not work for off campus students • You will need to adjust the prefix of your PURL for the audience (strictly your campus or visiting students?)
