  2. Matches • Technique that joins/divides two shots by making connections. • Connection can be inferred or optical • It can be used to underline a connection between two separate elements, or for purely visual reasons.

  3. Eye Line Match (inferred) • Cut obeying action of axis • First shot = a person looking at something. • Second shot = what that person is looking at. • Close-ups of the eyes and/image can emphasize shots.

  4. Graphic Match • Two successive shots joined to create strong similarity of color, shape, etc. • This is used to cause smooth transitions between shots. • A "graphic match" occurs when shapes, colors and/or overall movement of shot A are matched with the composition of shot B. Graphic Match

  5. Match on Action • A cut which splices two different views of the same action together at the same moment in the same movement • This makes the action seem uninterrupted. • Match on Action
