Washington Scholarship Coalition What we collaborated to accomplish • Increase access to scholarships for Washington students, with emphasis around low-income and underserved students • Increase awareness of financial aid & scholarship opportunities • Increase private scholarship funding by providing donors with information on effective, efficient ways to contribute • Improve efficiencies in private scholarship application process • Improve availability of data on private scholarships for scholarship-seeking students • Create a trusted resource Washington Scholarship Coalition

The Case for theWashBoard.org Challenges that scholarship seekers face: Other tools don’t do the job • Most scholarship searching happens online • Many online tools overwhelm seekers with unreliable search results • Inundated with excessive marketing • Require lengthy profile submission, registration fees & other additional fees • Designed for “search” rather than “match” • Not student-centered • No feedback to scholarship providers to better align dollars with the actual needs of today’s students Washington Scholarship Coalition

The Case for theWashBoard.org Challenges that scholarship providers face • Lack of coordinated, cooperative efforts to help donors understand student needs • Lack of awareness & marketing of giving opportunities & processes • Some scholarship providers receive disproportionate & overwhelming number of applications • Washington has no centralized system in place to measure private scholarship giving – the landscape is not clear Washington Scholarship Coalition

Overview of theWashBoard.org Development Timeline: • Completed the feasibility phase • Secured $750,00 of project costs – 66% of the total needed • Launched product design & development • Secured a permanent home at the HECB • Launch pilot version to scholarship providers (mid-Oct.’09) • Launch pilot version to scholarship seekers (Dec. ’09) • Develop Phase II enhancements to unleash new functionality Washington Scholarship Coalition
