Chemical Formula • Indicates the relative number of atoms of each kind in a chemical compound.
Ionic compound • Consists of a lattice of positive & negative ions. • Formula represents one formula unit, the simplest ratio of the compound’s cations & anions. • Formula must be neutral.
Monoatomic Ions • Ions formed from a single atom. • Metals lose electrons to form positive ions. • Non-metals gain electrons to form negative ions.
