  1. Accessing Information and Analyzing Influences Opening Work: How can these two skills be used to encourage healthy behavior HOW DO YOU THINK A PERSON CAN GET BETTER AT RECOGNIZING WHAT INFLUENCES HIM OR HER??

  2. Accessing Information • What are the elements for accessing information (focus on the health topics you are considering). • Identify sources of information • What sources did you identify? • Find needed help • When you need more than info, what other types of help might be needed? • Where might you find this help? • Determine what type of help a source offers • Determine why it is a good source

  3. Determine why it is a good source? • Most important element • We have access to so much information. • We need to know what information we should trust. • Ask: Who? What? Where? When ? Why?* • After looking at “Think Critically” worksheet…What other suggestions might you have for one another?

  4. Analyzing influences • Influences can be both internal: i.e. our needs, wants, beliefs, and opinions. • Influences can be external: i.e. influence of people and our environment • 60 second brainstorm • One half of room brainstorm external influences • Other half of room brainstorm internal influences • Be prepared to report back

  5. Case Study • What are some of the influences you noticed ? • How do these influences affect choices?

  6. Written Assignments • Partner up with someone who is working on the same health topic • Re-read what you wrote and add any new thoughts you might have. • Read one another’s documents and comment on them, noting ways they can be strengthened • Use the skills posters for reference if needed.

  7. Closure • If you wanted to adopt healthy behaviors which element of these two skills seems most important to understand and remember?
