  3. What is iSearch? • Stands for “intelligent search” • A brand new search and discovery tool which enables you to search Library Catalogue and most of the Library’s e-journals, e-books and databases. • You can find all relevant information on any particular topic with one simple search. 3

  4. Where to start? - access iSearch from the HKIEd Library Websitehttp://www.lib.ied.edu.hk Enter the keywords, article title, author or name of the book and start searching 4

  5. e.g. Search for gender gap higher education gets over 1 hundred thousand hits with books, journals, reports, etc. 5

  6. For more precise results, use double quotes for phrases “gender gap” and “higher education” 6

  9. Click Check EdLINK to see whether full text is available in case no PDF Full Text icon is provided 9

  11. Quick Options to narrow down the results to scholarly journals / Library Catalogue, limit results to particular year(s), source types, subject, language, etc. 11

  12. - Check with the location code / request the item / search the HKALL, etc. Check with similar title(s) 12

  13. Add selected items to Folder for printing, email, export, etc 13

  14. You can also export records to RefWorks for future use if you have registered a RefWorks account 14

  15. Expand your search to other Chinese Databases, HKALL, Google Scholar, etc 15

  16. Click “Retrieve Item” to view the article 16

  17. Click A-Z Database List to search Chinese databases and other specialized databases not covered by iSearch 17

  19. Find “ProQuest Education Databaese” by Browsing “P" (or browse by “education” subject; or search directly) ProQuest Education Databases 19

Searching tips: Expand your search • Select other links of “Suggested subjects” to expand your search • Use Boolean operator “OR” to include more search terms e.g. web-based OR internet OR electronic OR digital • Use truncation (*) to expand your search term in alternative way e.g. adolescen* to search for adolescent, adolescence, etc. 26

Searching tips: Narrow your search • Select “Peer reviewed” under the search box • Consider the suggested “Narrow results” options from the search result screen, e.g. publication title, document type, language, publication date, etc. • Use Boolean operator “AND” to limit search results to a narrower scene e.g. school support AND inclusive education 27

  33. Remote Access • Go to http://www.refworks.com • Use the Group Code to login (HKIEd members only) • Login personal account for HKIEd users Get the Group Code Enter Group Code

  35. Sign up a new RefWorksaccount

  36. The menu bar allows you to access all functionalities of RefWorks. Simply move your mouse pointer over the entries and further options will drop down.

  37. Export record to RefWorks directly Export the record to RefWorks

  38. Last Imported Folder The result imported will be placed in the last imported folder. If you repeat importing records, this folder will only contain the results of the very last import. All previously imported records are stored in the database, but not associated with a folder.

  39. Try yourself • Go to HKIEd Library Catalogue • Search for Author = “Loreman, Tim” • Save and export all found records • Import the records to your RefWorks account

  44. Try yourself • Go to ERIC (EBSCOhost) Databases • Library homepage > E-Resources > By Alphabet: E > ERIC (via EBSCOhost) • Search Title = inclusive education • Mark 5 records found & export to RefWorks

  45. Creating a Bibliography Create bibliography from your references Bibliography created in preferred style e.g. APA References arranged and sorted automatically Output bibliography in HTML or Word format Create bibliography from all references or selected folder
