Baseball Career Ted Williams had one of the greatest swings in major league baseball He is the last player to end a season with a .400 batting average In 1947 he won the Triple Crown Award, which is given to the player that has the highest batting average, most RBI’s, and most home runs that season

  4. War Veteran In 1942 Ted Williams, age 24, joined the United States Navy He got his wings in the U.S. Marines but never saw any war time and was sent home In the 1950’s he was called up and was flying fighter planes in the Korean War He fought in 39 missions and was even hit by enemy fire

  5. After Baseball and War After his baseball career ended Williams went on to manage the Washington Senators from 1969 to 1971 He donated time and money to charities helping children with cancer He also wrote book on one of his favorite hobbies, fishing
