  4. Human & Physical Features Did you know that in Lesotho the life expectancy is 42.6 years of age? However America’s life expectancy is 78.2 years of age! Moving right along, Lesotho’s population is only 1,981,000! On the other hand, America’s population is 299,846,000. Another human feature about Lesotho is that 82% of their population is literate. That is a little lower than America because 86% of Americans are literate. Lesotho has only 5 doctors for every 1,000 people. On the other hand, in America there are 256 doctors for every 1,000 people. Another human fact about Lesotho is that their infant mortality is 64.6 per every 1,000 births. However, in America the infant mortality is 6.3 for every 1,000 life births. Last but certainly not least, Lesotho’s birth rate is 29 per every 1,000 pop. On the other hand America’s birth rate is 14 per every 1,000 pop. In highlight, there were many interesting Lesotho human features compared to America.

  5. Flag Did you know that the new Lesotho flag retained elements of the original Lesotho flag? Here are many extraordinary facts about the Lesotho flag. First of all, the Lesotho flag was adopted on January 19, 1987. Another Lesotho flag fact is that Lesotho adopted their flag after a military coup, replacing the flag that was adopted when Lesotho gained independence from Britain on October 4, 1966. Moving right along, the Lesotho flag uses the symbolic use of the national motto from the country’s coat of arms: “Khotso-Pula-Nala”, which means “Peace-Rain-Plenty”. On the Lesotho flag the upper white section represents peace, the blue stripe symbolizes rain and water and the green section stands for the country’s fertile agricultural land. Last but certainly not least, the shield supported by a spear on the left, a bludgeon on the right and a plumped spine in the center, symbolizes Lesotho’s willingness to defend their independence. In conclusion, these were some of the mind blowing facts about Lesotho’s flag.

  7. Religion Did you know that 80% of the Lesotho population practices Christianity? First of all, Christians believe that after life you go to eternal heaven or hell. Also, Christianity was founded by Jesus Christ in C.30 AD, Israel. Moving right along, two billion people practice Christianity worldwide! In Christianity there is one God who is a trinity of father, son and Holy Spirit! Last but certainly not least, Christians practices include prayer, bible study, baptism, Eucharist, church on Sundays and numerous holidays. In conclusion, Christianity definitely has a large impact on Lesotho’s culture!

  10. Animals, Plants, & Natural Resources Did you know that in Lesotho there are 359 different bird species? Here are a couple of facts about the wattled crane, half-collared kingfisher and the yellow warbler. First of all, the wattled crane is the largest and rarest of six species of crane in Africa. In highlight, when the wattled crane is getting threatened it’s wattle shrinks and when it gets aggressive it’s wattle gets longer. Moving right along, did you know the half-collared kingfisher is widespread but uncommon, with populations scattered across Africa? Another fact about the half-collared kingfisher is that is eats exactly one food which is fish! The next bird in Lesotho is the yellow warbler which was first described in 1766 by Carolus Linnaeus, a Swedish botanist, physician and zoologist. Last but certainly not least, recent DNA-based studies indicate that the chestnut sided warbler is their closest relative. In highlight, these were some extraordinary facts about the wattled crane, half-collared kingfisher and the yellow warbler.
