  4. Why do I want a PE? Prestige Career Development Authority To sign/seal/stamp drawings To run your own projects or even your own firm (legally required!) Career Flexibility MONEY!

How Do I Get a PE? 1) Earn a four-year degree in engineering from an accredited program (Purdue!) 2) Pass the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam Complete four years of engineering experience under a licensed PE • This requirement varies by state • Make sure you will be working under a license PE at your prospective employer 4) Complete application to take the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) exam 5) Pass the PE Exam 2) Pass the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam

Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam Governing body is NCEES (National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying) Pay $225 exam fee to NCEES Can be taken year-round at Schleman Hall or any NCEES-approved Pearson VUE test center in the country Reciprocal in all states and territories Pass/Fail exam

Apply to Become a Registered EIT Indiana Application Checklist to be an Engineer in Training (EIT): ____ 3 reference letters in sealed envelopes ____ Original photograph (taken in past 8 weeks) ____NCEES notification of passing FE exam ____Original copy of transcript sent directly from the University ____$10 application fee

  21. SUMMARY: Why the FE? It’s the first step toward PE But why do I want a PE? Important for career advancement Ability to sign and seal drawings makes you valuable Immediate salary increase upon becoming a PE Bonus: Taking the FE shows initiative in interviews (and being an “EIT” is a way to fit that on your resume)
