  1. Happy Wednesday!Bellwork:Working with the person next to you, write down as many of the 7 characteristics of life as you can remember.Hint: Re Roger

  2. Science Fact of the DayFor every human on Earth, there are 10 million trillion microorganisms on the ocean floor. (That’s 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 organisms)

  3. CO (WHAT?):I will understand lab expectations and safety procedures. LO (HOW?):I will practice lab safety techniques. I will identify lab safety violations and determine how to fix them.

  4. CHAMPs: Lab • C: Talk only to your group members about the lab • H: Raise your hand for my help ONLY if EVERYONE in your group is confused • A: Work safely on lab at assigned station • M: Stand at your assigned lab station. DO NOT leave station with out teacher direction/approval • P: Talk with your group about the lab. Always wear safety goggles. Help complete the task. NO heads on desk. DO NOT touch the lab materials until told to do so.

  5. Lab Procedures • Never touch lab equipment without a teacher’s permission. • Always wear your lab safety goggles and lab apron when in the lab. • Pull back longhair. • Wear closed-toe shoes during a lab. • Do not touch/turn on water or gas faucets without a teacher’s permission. • If you wear contacts, it is best to wear glasses in the lab. If you wear contacts, be sure to tell your teacher.

  6. Lab Procedures • Do not directly sniff any substance in a lab. Always waft! • Never eat or put lab materials in your mouth. • Do not chew gum in the lab. • Follow directions exactly as they are given. • If you have a question on a lab procedure, ask before going on. • If there is an emergency or something is spilled or glass is broken, tell your teacher immediately.

  7. Fire Emergency Evacuation Plan • Follow the route your teacher describes • Gather at your assigned area when outside. Your teacher will be there with the orange class number. • Remain with your teacher until told to go inside (attendance will be taken). • If we can return to the building, go directly back to class.

  8. Lab Safety Equipment • Goggles • Aprons • Eye Wash station* • Safety Shower* • Fire blanket/extinguisher* • Emergency Passes* • Items with a (*) by them are to only be used during an emergency. Your teacher will notify you when it is appropriate to use one of these items.

  9. WHAT IS HAPPENING?! • With your partner, look at the picture of the lab. • Find as many things wrong with it as possible.

  10. Lab Safety Poster • Choose one lab safety rule/procedure to make a poster about on a piece of computer paper. • Feel free to color it and make it look pretty 
